Lotterywest grant to promote sustainable agriculture

09 February 2023

A Perth project focused on sustainable and regenerative farming practices has been given a welcome boost, thanks to a Lotterywest grant of $719,000.

Perth NRM works on a wide range of projects in environmental management, landcare and agricultural services. It is currently focused on revegetating urban areas, coastline conservation as well as regenerative agriculture.

The Lotterywest funding will support Perth NRM in expanding its RegenWA community program.

The grant will help cover team salaries, project activities and evaluation for two years.

RegenWA supports farmers to implement sustainable and regenerative farming practices. This includes addressing salinity, erosion, acidification, pest and disease management, as well as climate change.

The initiative is linked to a national network 'Farming for the Future' which aims to create a more climate resilient and prosperous agricultural sector.

Comments attributed to Environment Minister Reece Whitby:

"Perth NRM is a worthy recipient of a Lotterywest grant and I applaud its efforts in working to address challenges posed by land degradation and climate change.

"Its innovative RegenWA program is a great example of how farmers can improve the land they use through regenerative agriculture.

"It's fantastic to see this program will include Aboriginal farmers bringing their cultural expertise into managing land across the Perth metropolitan region."
